Providing energy and water to rural villages is the key to human development in Africa. Without access to energy and clean water, there is no access to good education, or health care. Over 400 million people in Africa lack clean water, and over twice that number lack reliable electricity. Innovation: Africa is one of the most successful non-profit organizations to address these needs with a single solution: an efficient, durable, energy and water pumping system using integrated solar energy, battery back-up and water storage towers. For $65,000, this integrated solar and water system will completely transform the lives of thousands of families in rural sub-Sahara Africa.
Water: Build a Village Water Well through Water for South Sudan
Access to clean drinking water is essential for human development. Clean drinking water also prevents waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid fever, and diarrhea, which can disproportionately affect children and the most vulnerable. Water for South Sudan (WFSS) is one of the largest and most effective providers of water wells in sub-Sahara Africa, with over 600 wells drilled since 2005. They have provided clean water to over half a million people. Splendonor has partnered with Water for South Sudan to allow donors to easily sponsor and track the construction of a specific well which provides life-sustaining fresh water to an entire rural community. Only $20,000 is needed to sponsor a well.
